It can actually absorb other life forms into its mass or control these forms from a distance, all working with one mind from a cellular level. The Thing gathered all of the biomass it had acquired into one enormous monster at one point, covered with snapping jaws, claws, and tentacles, combining features of all of the life forms it had absorbed on Earth and more.
